CB DORIAN BARNEY
Florida State already has two safety commitments in four-star Tedarius Hughes and Darryl Bell III in the 2026 class. While I know that they could always de-commit and go elsewhere, it is always a good sign to have talented prospects in the fold.
Florida State has had its fair share of defensive backs sign with the Seminoles since assistant coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has been hired. His name has resonated within the recruiting circles. The defensive backfield played relatively well at times last year even when the squad as a whole was disappointing.
However, the Seminoles are now having to replace pieces such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Kevin Knowles III after they graduate and hope to make their NFL dreams a reality.
What is even more interesting is that Florida State has not secured a transfer portal prospect at the defensive back position this offseason. The Seminoles added Gregory Thomas, Shamar Arnoux, and Max Redmon in the 2025 cycle. Then three-star Antonio Cromartie Jr. has committed but not signed yet.
One name that I would like to mention is four-star cornerback Dorian Barney from Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia. He is a high school teammate of Cromartie Jr. As a result, the connection between the two could pay dividends in acquiring the talented defensive back.
Barney was committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide last year, so snagging him would be an impressive get with Florida State continuing to pick a defender that had a productive 2024 season with four interceptions.
