Thoughts on 4-star RB Byron Louis flipping his commitment to Florida
Florida State football is struggling this year as they fall to a 2-9 record as they take on arch-rival Florida Gators, who have already achieved bowl eligibility with their win over Ole Miss. The Gators have overperformed with its difficult schedule.
Many individuals (including myself) thought that head football coach Billy Napier would be fired before the season ended due to their November slate. It is hard to believe that Florida could have seven wins at the end of the regular season with a win over Florida State.
Florida has secured flips like four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. and three-star offensive lineman Daniel Pierre Louis. Fans were a little frustrated by the Gators getting both prospects, specifically Jones Jr., due to the quarterback situation.
However, Florida State responded to the news by acquiring four-star signal-caller Kevin Sperry. The Seminoles always have a backup plan if things don't go their way.
On Tuesday afternoon, four-star running back Byron Louis from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, announced that he would be flipping his commitment from Florida State to Florida. Louis was pledged to the Seminoles on September 21st.
His main recruiter for Florida State is defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. (who was his high school football coach at American Heritage High School). Surtain Sr. has been interviewed for the vacant head football coach position at Southern Miss, where he played at the university.
I know that a lot of fans blame it on the Seminoles not being able to recruit due to their record on the field. However, the coaching staff wasn't able to take advantage of the product in 2023 with the 13-1 finish. This should have raised red flags that Norvell should have shown more of a fight against a program with two running backs already committed to the Gators.
