Florida State football's struggles continue, as they have lost five of their last six games. The Seminoles created so much momentum when they defeated Alabama in the season opener, but August 30th feels like a decade ago.
The offense has sputtered in the last couple of games, which included 13 points against Stanford and 10 points against Clemson. This fan base was excited about the acquisition of offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who is used to putting points on the scoreboard.
Even though the offense is one of the top scoring in college football, it still has deficiencies.
FSU LACKS EXPLOSIVENESS
Florida State's passing attack was never going to be top in the country, even with the likes of wide receivers Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy. However, Coach Malzahn has always been known to establish the running game.
The rushing attack was one of the worst in the country for the Seminoles last year, so Florida State could only go from there. According to ESPN Stats and Information, Florida State ranks 11th in the FBS with 226.7 rushing yards per game.
This is a massive positive, but the Seminoles haven't just relied on one back to get the job done. Redshirt junior Gavin Sawchuk is the leading rusher, but he has barely played in the last couple of weeks.
I thought that this would be a stretch where true freshman Ousmane Kromah would take control of the carries. Even though the Seminoles battled the likes of Georgia and Auburn in the recruitment process, the former four-star prospect only has 454 total yards and one touchdown through nine games.
Head football coach Mike Norvell stated in Wednesday's press conference that he is excited about how Kromah is growing and is definitely a key part as they roll through the rest of the season. Coach Norvell has talked about other backs in the past in the same light, and it has turned into a committee approach.
The Virginia Tech game needs to be a breakout 100-yard game for Kromah to gain his confidence.
