DEFENSIVE END COULD BE INTERESTING FOR FSU IN 2025

Florida State football has added some productive transfers from the portal to the defensive line, including James Williams, Deante McCray, Deamontae Diggs, and Jayson Jenkins.

Williams and McCray are looking to be potential starters on the defensive line. Fans were excited about the unit last season with the duo of Patrick Payton and Marvin Jones Jr. We can blame it on legendary coach Nick Saban for hyping up the defensive line.

However, the Seminoles moved in the direction of the new defensive line coach, Terrance Knighton, who fans are having a time with on social media right now. Plus, the defense should be much improved under the defensive coordinator Tony White.

JAYSON JENKINS RETURN?

One of the biggest wild cards on the defensive line was Tennessee's Jayson Jenkins, who had nine tackles (four for loss) and two sacks. Jenkins had an injury that he suffered during spring practice. It was a bummer for the coaching staff that was expecting him to be a hybrid defensive end/tackle.

If Jenkins does get inserted into the defensive tackle rotation, that would be a formidable unit that the Seminoles could rave about. Florida State already has redshirt senior Darrell Jackson Jr., who should be one of the leaders on defense. Then, they also have redshirt junior Daniel Lyons, redshirt sophomore KJ Sampson, and true freshman Kevin Wynn.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE GROUP HAS QUALITY DEPTH

That is three former four-star prospects backing up Jackson Jr. when Florida State runs its multiple 3-3-5 scheme. That speaks to the depth that they have at the position, where I think that the defensive tackle group is the deepest unit that they have on the squad.

Jenkins would be someone who can ensure that they take pressure off of the likes of Deamontae Diggs before he is ready at defensive end, and then allow the youngster Kevin Wynn to get acclimated to the collegiate level.
