START OF FALL CAMP
Florida State football starts its fall camp today (Wednesday, July 30th). This is a moment for the Seminoles to forget about the 2-10 record from last season and move forward. Individuals such as Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy will live in the past, but Florida State has to block out the noise.
The Seminoles are not allowing the media to be in attendance for practice. Some fans think that is a good thing after the debacle from last season. I get the point about Florida State going in that direction, but I know that media members are a little sour about the decision.
One of the reasons behind the lack of media access is that the program wants to go into the Alabama season opener unpredictably. Many have the Seminoles listed as a wild card for the year, so it should be fun to witness players emerge.
DO-IT-ALL JAYLIN LUCAS
With fall camp beginning, redshirt junior running back Jaylin Lucas was the star of the show last offseason as he displayed his blazing speed. I thought that the program would have used Lucas, but Florida State sputtered in Dublin, Ireland, versus Georgia Tech.
Head football coach Mike Norvell then explained in his post-game presser, after the defeat, that they should have displayed the former Indiana Hoosier more. They then decided to use the speedy athlete against Boston College, and he suffered a season-ending injury.
Rehabbing had to be miserable for Lucas as he was likely itching to get back on the football field, especially when he saw his team struggling to remain competitive on the gridiron. Fast forward to 2025, I don't know where the Louisiana native will fit in the majority of time, whether it be at running back or wide receiver, but the coaching staff needs to use his speed to their advantage.
Typically, fall camp is where speedy playmakers can shine. This could be Jaylin Lucas's moment to be a huge piece in the Seminoles' offense for 2025.
