FSU football head coach Mike Norvell will not open practice to the media for 2025 fall camp. It's a continuation of Norvell's closed practice policy that began earlier this year during spring camp.
The move comes as no surprise, and it's the right move for several reasons. We don't learn much from the media who attend. The video clips here and there are cool, and the post-practice interviews are cool, but there's never any real ground-breaking stuff that comes from that.
Mike Norvell and the coaching staff will release whatever information they want when they do interviews.
FSU Fans Are Not Upset About It Either
The beat actually having to work for relevant articles and hating it...

If I had our local media coverage, I wouldn’t give them access either

Yep, this is what I prefer 🍢

I don’t care. It’s all about W’s and L’s. After last year I’m holding my breath. Not interested in beat writers “observations “. No offense.

Facts!!! Carma to all those beat writers

The only people who benefit from an open practice are the media because they depend on it for content. We are not media per se, but we've never been to a practice in over a decade covering this team and still produce quality content. We're not tooting our own horn, but we have often been better at projecting what the team will look like than those who have attended practices regularly.
When a large contingent of fans feel this way about the media that covers the team, that's saying something. Some, not all, but some have an obvious agenda against Mike Norvell. It was bad last season, but they showed their true colors even more in the spring when access was cut.
Some media think Mike Norvell closing practice is because he doesn't confidence in the team. That's an absurd statement. That screams someone is upset their job may have gotten a tad harder.
It has nothing to do with confidence. The product will be the product regardless of whether practice is open or not. Opening practice doesn’t help the team https://t.co/CSWmLM6f45

Here's the thing: whether the team is bad or not will be revealed in the first few games. However, opening practice doesn't benefit anyone except the media. There's only a small percentage of fans who care about practice videos and interviews. Just look at the views on the video posts.
I like the move at the end of the day, I just hope we don't have to listen to a segment of these media guys whine and slant their coverage with even more negativity.
