This offensive playmaker in the portal could be an intriguing grab by the staff

Florida State football can never have too many playmakers.

Florida State football will be looking to add transfers to its roster with the transfer portal window opening tomorrow (Friday, January 2nd). The Seminoles need a spark of energy after the program has mustered together seven wins in two years.

This is not the expectation for a team that wants to compete for conference and national championships. Florida State has already got some good news this offseason with players such as Duce Robinson, Ja'Bril Rawls, and Landen Thomas returning for the 2026 season.

However, the Seminoles could get even better news soon, as running back Hollywood Smothers is expected to be visiting this weekend, according to a report from Noles247.

This is a questionable move from some of the fan base because individuals feel as thought backs on the roster such as Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton Jr. should get the opportunities. However, the Seminoles did bring in a running backs coach Kam Martin this offseason, which did not recruit the likes of Kromah and Singleton Jr.

With that being said, according to ESPN Stats and Information, Smothers recorded 939 yards and six touchdowns for the Wolfpack last year. He was a former four-star prospect that the Seminoles recruited heavily out of high school, but he ultimately chose to commit to North Carolina State.

There is nothing wrong with bring in talented playmakers, but there probably needs to be more of an emphasis on getting a quarterback (if they don't believe in Kevin Sperry), offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker since pass catchers have been retained.

However, it should be noted that many of the fan base did not think that Florida State should have gotten former Michigan State wide receiver Keon Coleman out of the transfer portal since they had the big-bodied Johnny Wilson, but that dilemma was a thing of the past when both excelled in Tallahassee.
