Florida State football already has a commitment this transfer cycle with former South Alabama defensive back Nehemiah Chandler. When you turn on the film for Chandler, you see someone who is aggressive and isn't afraid to be physical.
The fan base wants to acquire positions in the transfer portal, such as quarterback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. Defensive back doesn't seem to be a group that the Seminoles should be focusing on.
Florida State was able to retain pieces in the secondary during the 2026 season, such as Ja'Bril Rawls, Ashlynd Barker, and Earl Little Jr. (rumored). Position coach Patrick Surtain Sr. was dismissed this offseason, which frustrated many of them. However, it looks like the feelings have shifted to optimism now.
I thought that Nehemiah Chandler would be their only acquisition (and maybe Troy's Jaquez White) in the secondary this offseason. However, Florida State brought in South Florida's Jarvis Lee for a visit this weekend.
Lee played with South Florida's defense under head football coach Alex Golesh (who is now at Auburn). The defensive back played with physicality with the Bulls, who had 55 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions during the 2025 season (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
This is an acquisition that I can get behind, since Lee is a physical defender who can make Florida State's defense under coordinator Tony White dangerous next year. The Seminoles need to get back to being a DBU standard.
Florida State will be playing the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Miami, Florida, North Carolina State, and SMU next season, so the defense can keep its offenses out of the end zone. If Jarvis Lee comes to Tallahassee, the fan base should be extremely excited.
