Florida State football is hosting several transfer portal prospects since the window is only open for a short period of time. The Seminoles have to get better in a hurry, with only seven wins in two years.
Head football coach Mike Norvell and his squad are in desperate mode to win right now. The Seminole fan base just wants to find success on the gridiron, and it starts with player acquisition. Florida State has made changes to its front office to help with that aspect.
Quarterback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker seem to be the positions of need for the Seminoles. The fan base fell in love with signal-caller news, since transfers DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos did not pan out the way that people thought. Plus, it is the most important position on the field and helps teams be successful in a hurry.
However, I want to discuss another transfer that just finished his visit with the Seminoles, and that is former UCF defensive tackle John Walker, who was a former four-star prospect in high school, and Florida State was heavily involved then before he chose the Knights.
Veteran Darrell Jackson Jr. has exceeded his eligibility, so the Seminoles need to find talented options on their defensive line. There are encouraging pieces such as Mandrell Desir, Darryll Desir, and Kevin Wynn, but there needs to be more at the position to move the needle.
Walker was a prospect that I wrote about here, about how the Seminoles could not afford him to leave campus without committing to Florida State. Unfortunately, the Seminoles' worst nightmare happened, as the defensive tackle will now be visiting Ohio State before making his decision.
It is never great when transfers leave campus and go to visit other schools, especially a school that is at the caliber of Ohio State, when Florida State has struggled to find consistency over the past decade.
The Seminoles got one commitment yesterday in South Alabama defensive back Nehemiah Chandler, but they need to find more success in the transfer portal window.
