Florida State football is in some bad shape as it is trying to pick up the pieces after a 5-7 season in 2025. The Seminole fan base thought that maybe 2024 could have been a blunder after the 2-10 disaster, but the end of this past year showed that there are deficiencies from within.
Fans are skeptical about the ability of head football coach Mike Norvell to lead properly. This is a program that wants to win championships. They don't want to be sitting on the couch because they lost to arch-rivals Florida and Miami, as well as not making a bowl game.
It isn't very comfortable on so many different levels. However, Coach Norvell is allowed to find a way to fight through this, but it won't be easy. Florida State has to put its head down and go to work.
Mandrell and Darryll Desir could wind up going to Ohio State
The first step in all of this equation is player acquisition. While grabbed players during the portal window is vital, the Seminoles need to ensure that it retains its talent that is worth keeping. Two players that Florida State is trying their best on is Mandrell and Darryll Desir.
While the Desir Twins are important, it is helpful that true freshman defensive tackle Kevin Wynn decided to return to the Seminoles. However, Mandrell Desir was awarded a Freshman All-American honor for last season.
Florida State and the Desir Twins have been in negotiations since the program got word that they planned on being in the transfer portal, but just yesterday, they officially announced that they were in the transfer portal.
If Florida State cannot figure out the deal with the Desir Twins, then they will visit other schools. One team that I would be monitoring is Ohio State. While I understand that both of them are from Miami, the Buckeyes seem like they would be willing to pay more than Miami.
Ohio State lost defensive linemen to the transfer portal this offseason, but they added someone like former UCF defensive tackle transfer John Walker (he visited Florida State and then left to Ohio State to commit there). If the Desir Twins were to commit to the Buckeyes, they would see three highly-touted defensive linemen that they should have had on their defensive line.
