Florida State football has always been known for getting recognition from its former players. Even with the struggles in 2024, the Seminole fanbase can hang its hat on the professional ranks as many players from its past have balled out.
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 40-22 in the Super Bowl. It was a bit of a surprising result, considering that the Chiefs were favored in the matchup. Many individuals did not want quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to win yet another championship.
Even though the Seminoles have former defensive tackles Derrick Nnadi and Fabien Lovett Sr. on the Chiefs roster, the fan base also wanted defensive end Josh Sweat and wide receiver Johnny Wilson on the Eagles roster to have success as well.
While Wilson did not have much production in the Super Bowl, the same cannot be said about Josh Sweat. The pass rusher had himself a field day where he consistently disrupted Patrick Mahomes and their offensive line.
During the NFL Playoffs, Sweat had ten tackles (three for loss) and 2.5 sacks. He was someone who continued to be a pest for opposing offenses. Pass rushers are a premium in the NFL, and teams usually pay up to keep them.
However, that was not the case as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that former Florida State Seminole and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat agreed to a 4 year, $76.4 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
While I am surprised that the Eagles did not give him a competitive offer, this is something that I know Sweat is extremely excited about after his performance in the Super Bowl, where I thought he had a chance to win the MVP award of the game.
The defensive end will be united in Arizona with another former Seminole running back, Trey Benson. This should be a fun team that Seminole fans will enjoy.
