The offensive line for Florida State and Mike Norvell might exceed expectations

This could be a good unit for the Florida State Seminoles.

Florida State's offense had solid moments in 2025, but it wasn't consistent enough in the red zone to convert to more scoring opportunities. With that said, former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired, and head coach Mike Norvell will be tasked with calling plays.

This isn't foreign to Coach Norvell, as his entire coaching career has revolved around offensive play calling. However, the Seminoles will be welcoming in several new pieces via the transfer portal and high school recruiting ranks.

This is typical of today's college football landscape, where teams have to rebuild and retool their rosters all the time. It isn't ideal that Florida State has won only seven games in two years, but the positive is that it can almost certainly only go up from here.

The offensive line is looking to be a pivotal part in the Seminoles' offensive success

Florida State was able to retain wide receiver Duce Robinson for the 2026 season, which was massive for whichever signal-caller will line up under center, whether it be Kevin Sperry or Ashton Daniels (or Malachi Marshall).

However, for Robinson to get the football in his hands, the offensive line has to do their best to protect the signal-callers. Assistant coach Herb Hand has been around several Power Four schools during his coaching career and knows how to get the most out of his players.

Coach Hand brought in five transfers last year, and had a starting unit full of transfers that had one year of eligibility. The issue with that is the Seminoles had to overhaul their offensive line again from the transfer portal.

Head coach Mike Norvell talked to the media on Thursday afternoon, where he mentioned that he is excited about where it can go with about eight or nine players in the offensive line rotation, but it is still "a work in progress" to name a starting five.

The offensive line has linemen who are versatile enough to play multiple positions, such as Nate Pabst, Bradyn Joiner, Paul Bowling, and Andre Otto, but Florida State lost plenty of talented pieces from last season's roster and also has to welcome in another quarterback who is still trying to learn the system.

Hopefully, Coach Hand can find the right combination of offensive linemen, and the offense can be able to move the football at an efficient rate.
