This call by the umpire was absolutely awful.

Florida State baseball played Pittsburgh on Friday night in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals. The game was moved to 3 PM EST due to the weather, but when we got into a lightning delay, the Seminoles were playing in the night slate.

Florida State always swept the Panthers at home about three weeks ago, and they were going to help their RPI in their quest to get a top-eight national seed. The Seminoles have been battling through adversity this year after superstar Myles Bailey suffered a season-ending injury when sliding into second base.

It seems like Florida State baseball always has something heartbreaking to limit them from winning their first-ever national championship. It is unfortunate because Bailey was a special player who could have led the offense to new heights.

This isn't to say that the Seminoles were the best team in the country, but when they also had a pitching staff of Wes Mendes, Trey Beard, Bryson Moore, John Abraham, Cooper Whited, and Chris Knier, anything is possible.

Florida State and Link Jarrett lose in heartbreaking fashion again

Everything was going wrong for Florida State against Pittsburgh, as they were faced with a 5-1 deficit, when the do-it-all Ben Barrett hit a grand slam to tie the game at 5. Then, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Pittsburgh had a field error that allowed the Seminoles to take the lead 6-5.

We knew about Florida State's bullpen troubles without the services of reliever John Abraham. However, the Seminoles had Pittsburgh right where they wanted them in a 3-2 count with a runner on first and two outs. All they needed was one strike, and relief pitcher Brodie Purcell thought that he was able to get a third strike to end the game, but the umpire called it a ball, and the batter walked to first base.

Purcell and Florida State baseball couldn't believe it, as the home plate umpire needed a new pair of glasses. It was an obvious strike to end the game. After the walk, Kai Wagner homered to right center to give Pittsburgh an 8-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning. This was a heartbreaking way to lose.
