Talented linebacker has Noles "at the top" and will make a decision next month

LINEBACKER RECRUITING

Most of the fan base knows that linebacker recruiting has been a head-scratcher for a while here at Florida State. Former assistant coach Randy Shannon was viewed as a good developer, but it didn't seem like he did enough in the high school recruiting department to keep his job.

Florida State decided to hire Nebraska's Terrance Knighton to be its defensive line coach. This allowed defensive ends coach/special teams coordinator John Papuchis to move over to linebackers coach with Shannon's vacancy.

Papuchis has a nice target board aligned for the linebacker position so far with four-star Karon Maycock already in the fold (even though other schools are working on flipping him). Then we had three-star local target Daylen Green, whom I thought the Seminoles led for coming into his official visit weekend, but he decided to pick the Arkansas Razorbacks.

RODNEY COLTON JR. DECISION TIME

The Green commitment to Arkansas has me wondering if the Seminoles feel confident in other options at the linebacker position. The coaching staff had a couple of targets on campus this past weekend with four-star Rodney Colton Jr., four-star DQ Forkpa, and four-star TJ White.

Colton Jr. spoke with the media after the visit, and he stated that Florida State is his top school right now, which I was surprised for him to say since he has UCLA, Penn State, Ole Miss, and Colorado recruiting him. Most prospects say that a school is one of the top schools.

Nonetheless, the talented Georgia linebacker announced on social media that he will be making his decision on July 5th.

It is encouraging that he announced the Seminoles' official visit. It typically means that he is heavily interested in the school he last visited. I believe that the program would like to grab three linebackers in the class, and it would be great to see Florida State grab the Georgia native.
