Make no mistake about it, this Florida State baseball season was an epic disappointment on so many levels. Florida State didn’t win the ACC, got bounced from the ACC Tournament in one game, and failed to advance from the regional it hosted, losing to a St. John’s team twice.
It was the typical Florida State baseball we’re accustomed to seeing. They got an early lead, wasted other scoring opportunities, a hit, a couple of walks, and then a grand slam to see that lead vanish.
Florida State had an error and then allowed another run to score on a wild pitch, some of the same issues that plagued them in the first loss against St. John’s.
The Florida State offense had seven hits(three from one guy) and left seven runners on base. The inability to hit has plagued this team all season, forcing pitchers to be nearly perfect, with razor-thin margins for error. The lack of offense ultimately cost them the season, which is something I pointed out as soon as Myles Bailey was lost for the season in March:
Ehh…don’t want to draw too many conclusions from one game…but it was probably a long shot with Bailey in the lineup…without him…pitching gotta have zero margins for error and that’s not realistic with even this staff.

Link Jarrett has a lot of holes to fill on this roster, more than folks realize.
It was easy to see even before Bailey got hurt. Did this team fight hard? They did, and that’s commendable, but it was a poorly coached team. The poor baserunning, poor fundamentals, and lack of adjustments on offense were frustrating.
Link Jarrett is a great coach, but he has to make changes on the offensive side. The offense has regressed each year he’s been here and looks like it’ll be even worse next year unless he lands some miracles from the transfer portal. To be clear, I don’t want Link Jarrett gone. However, his approach on offense isn’t good enough, nor is the recruiting.
It’ll be interesting to see how this offseason unfolds. The pitching was very good this year, and the defense had some holes, but it improved once Gabe Fraser was inserted back into the lineup. FSU will lose a lot on the mound and could potentially lose much of the production it had on offense.
