FSU FOOTBALL SEASON OPENER

Florida State football is now six Saturdays away from the Seminoles' 2025 season opener versus Alabama. The game will be televised Saturday, August 30th, on ABC at 3:30 PM EST in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium.

Even though College Gameday won't be in Tallahassee for the game (Lee Corso's family thought it was logical for his final appearance on the show to be there instead), the pressure is still at an all-time high for head football coach Mike Norvell, who will be entering his sixth season with the Seminoles.

Redshirt senior defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. and redshirt senior wide receiver Gavin Blackwell wear the No. 6 jersey on the Seminoles' roster. In honor of it being six weeks away from kickoff, I want to discuss both of these players.

DT DARRELL JACKSON JR.

Defensive coordinator Tony White had huge praise for the veteran defender Darrell Jackson Jr., as he referred to him as "the best defensive tackle in the country". He had some moments in 2024, but it wasn't up to the standards that he wants for himself. His former high school teammate and best friend Joshua Farmer went on to the NFL, so the void will need to be filled with Jackson Jr. in 2025.

WR GAVIN BLACKWELL

Florida State has already added transfer wide receivers such as USC's Duce Robinson and Tennessee's Squirrel White. The Seminoles knew that they wanted to acquire another playmaker for their offense, so they decided to grab former North Carolina transfer Gavin Blackwell. He hasn't had much with the Tar Heels, as he recorded 31 receptions for 448 yards and one touchdown in four years. We will see if Blackwell could emerge as a WR3 or WR4 for the offense in 2025.
