Should FSU football fork up the money for this talented quarterback in the portal?

This should be a major priority for the Seminoles this offseason.

Florida State football fans want to see the squad make a splash in the transfer portal window. The issue has been that the program seems to be nickel and diming acquisitions at key positions such as the quarterback spot.

Fans have seen Florida State add transfers DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos over the past two years. While this isn't to bash either one of them, there were other options in the portal that they didn't want to invest resources in other capable options (Cam Ward).

However, the time is now for the Seminoles to turn the program around, and it could be at the quarterback position. Two names that have been associated with Florida State have been Colton Joseph (Old Dominion) and Anthony Colandrea (UNLV).

While Joseph and Colandrea are considered "solid" pieces, does it elevate the program into a 9 or 10-win program? The fan base wonders why we don't go after someone such as Auburn's Deuce Knight. The youngster plans to enter the transfer portal after the Tigers hired former South Florida head football coach Alex Golesh and will likely grab his quarterback, Byrum Brown.

Knight only played in two games during the 2025 season for Auburn, but he will be a hot commodity in the portal. However, he will be in play for teams such as LSU, Ole Miss, Indiana, and maybe even Oregon. I don't expect Florida State to be seriously involved, but anything can happen in college football.

Florida State needs to be in the conversation for paying up for a talented quarterback. The good news is that new General Manager John Garrett is no stranger to accomplishing that, since he was a big factor in bringing Darian Mensah to Duke, which allowed them to win the conference this season.

While I am not ready to crown Knight as a "can't-miss talent" in the transfer portal, this should be a time when Florida State finally gets a quarterback that another team is sad to see leave their university. Maybe since new quarterback coach Austin Tucker has connections in the South, this could be an opportunity to get in the door with Knight (we can dream, right?).
