FSU baseball (38-14, 17-10 ACC) will host the Tallahassee Regional for the second consecutive year, surprisingly just missing a top-eight seed.
The Noles will be the No. 9 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will be paired with the No. 8 seed Oregon State Beavers if the seedings hold.
Here's the fan reaction to FSU baseball receiving the No. 9 overall seed.
FSU will face Bethune-Cookman in the first regional game and will play the winner of Mississippi State and Northeastern if they win that game.
The SEC bias was apparent, with North Carolina listed as the No. 5 overall seed and four SEC teams among the top four. FSU playing North Carolina tough in the ACC Tournament and having FSU AD Michael Alford involved in the selection process might have proved enough to get FSU that No. 9 seed, with most projections placing FSU between the No. 10-12 seed.
Oregon State received the No. 8 overall spot and the chance to host Super Regionals isn't the worst thing that could happen for FSU. FSU going out west to play California late in the season should give them an idea of how that trip could work if they advance.
FSU played a tougher schedule than Oregon State and the Beavers only played 19 home games since they are not in a conference. Their home-field advantage shouldn't be as daunting as having to travel to somewhere like LSU or another SEC team with a great home atmosphere.
FSU has a decent path to make the College World Series again, but they must focus on doing the little things consistently. That has been their downfall when playing against North Carolina(the best team they've played all year). It's something I've been harping on all season. It's all about executing and limiting mistakes. If they do that, there's no reason they shouldn't find themselves in Omaha looking for a chance to capture that elusive national title.
