SPEED KILLS
I already wrote about redshirt freshman wide receiver Micahi Danzy, who ran a school-record 44.38 time in the 400-meter dash. Danzy was an electric playmaker who wanted the football in his hands. The coaching staff put the opportunity out there for him in spurts for the 2024 season.
The Tallahassee native got the wheel route versus Clemson, but he ended up dropping the pass. However, he redeemed himself against Charleston Southern on a similar pattern. This time, he came up with the reception.
This speaks to the trust that the coaching staff had in Danzy. It could have been easy to give up on the true freshman after the moment versus Clemson, but they decided to stick with him and showcase the utmost confidence in him.
MAKING THE MOST OF HIS OPPORTUNITY
The former four-star prospect moved over to the wide receiver position this offseason. I wasn't sure how Danzy would fit at the running back position, since he wasn't technically a true running back. I thought that the staff would move him around the field like Jaylin Lucas.
Danzy hasn't scored his first collegiate touchdown yet, but he is already fantasizing about it on social media.
I could imagine the track star on kick return duties this season. That would be a scary proposition. He and Jaylin Lucas would be a dynamic duo that could put the Seminoles' offense in great starting field position. I wouldn't rule out running back Samuel Singleton Jr., who had a big kickoff return touchdown versus Duke last season, too.
POTENTIAL AS A KICKOFF RETURNER
I couldn't even describe how loud Doak Campbell Stadium would get if Danzy ran a 95-yard kickoff return on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2025 season opener. That would be electric!
I know that the speedster has a lot to think about with balancing track and football. He is incredibly talented, and I wouldn't be surprised (and wouldn't blame him) if he chose to go track full-time. He has to do what's best for him. However, I love the confidence that Danzy shows on social media.
