QB transfer target is set to visit an ACC school after wrapping up visit with FSU

This was a disappointing development for the Seminoles.

Florida State football's coaching staff knew that it needed to add a quarterback transfer during the portal window because it only had two scholarship signal-callers on its roster (Kevin Sperry and Jaden O'Neal).

While some of the fan base think that Sperry could be the answer as a redshirt freshman, it is important to remember that depth still needs to be obtained. This could be a dangerous proposition since head football coach Mike Norvell's job security could be on the line in 2026.

Florida State hosted UNLV quarterback transfer Anthony Colandrea on a visit this weekend, which fans were intrigued by. He had a solid year with the Rebels under head football coach Dan Mullen. However, individuals are tired of the Seminoles going into the transfer portal to get "rentals" instead of developing their homegrown talent.

There was a thought that Florida State could be getting Colandrea to commit before Florida transfer DJ Lagway comes in for his visit. However, that is not the case, as ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Colandrea finished up his trip in Tallahassee on Sunday afternoon and will be heading to Georgia Tech for a visit on Monday morning.

As I discussed with UCF defensive tackle transfer John Walker, he will be visiting Ohio State after the trip to Florida State. It never seems like a good sign when a transfer goes to a different school because maybe you didn't check off all the boxes.

Florida State cannot afford to strike out in the quarterback market if they like a prospect. This isn't to say that DJ Lagway is a can't-miss talent because I am guilty myself of highlighting his shortcomings over the past two seasons. However, the Seminoles need to get this right.

I like Georgia Tech's chances to land Colandrea more, given their success on the field and the opportunity to start, as Haynes King exceeded his eligibility and Aaron Philo transferred out of their program.
