Florida State quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos arrived to Tallahassee earlier this month after previous stints at UCF and Boston College.
When the Seminoles acquired offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn this offseason, you knew that the offensive mind wanted to find a signal-caller who could command his scheme. Castellanos looked to be a perfect match.
While the Waycross, Georgia native is seen as a dual-threat option that primarily utilizes his legs, he has also grown as a passer as evidenced by the 2024 season with Boston College. Castellanos completed 99 of his 161 pass attempts for 1,366 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions.
When the quarterback arrived at Florida State, he wasn't sure what weapons he would have at the wide receiver position. The group as a whole did not perform well for the Seminoles, which led to one of the worst offenses in all of college football.
Then the Seminoles added USC's Duce Robinson and Tennessee's Squirrel White. Robinson is a 6'6" big-bodied target, while White is a 5'10" speedster.
Florida State's likely starting quarterback met with the media on Tuesday afternoon to ask questions. One of the individuals asked about his relationship with wide receiver Duce Robinson.
The connection seemed to pay off for the two as they connected instantly. I remember vividly that Castellanos was out there during workouts with Robinson and some of the other offensive guys. Even before the wide receiver pledged, the relationship between the two was strong.
The USC transfer had 23 receptions for 396 yards and five touchdowns during the 2024 season with the Trojans. It could be even scarier with Castellanos wanting Robinson to be a focal point in the offense. Who could blame him?
I wouldn't want to guard a 6'6" pass catcher that has a high catch radius either.
