True freshman defensive back Ricky Knight III impressing thus far in fall camp
Florida State had several players come into the program from the 2024 recruiting class. Most of them look promising as the Seminoles look to build upon the future.
One of those recruits was former four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. Knight III seems forgotten when discussing the recruiting class with players such as Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, and Cai Bates.
However, the former Cardinal Newman High School standout is starting to showcase his development early on through fall camp. Head football coach Mike Norvell spoke about Knight III after Thursday's practice where he stated the following:
"I like what I am seeing from him. He made a couple of really good plays today. Ricky got here this summer. I've seen some great flashes. There are a lot of areas where he continues to grow as well as understanding some things physically. He's definitely on the right path."
THOUGHTS
It isn't easy to envision Knight III having meaningful snaps as a true freshman. However, fans saw true freshman safety Conrad Hussey Jr. contribute heavily in 2023. Even though the former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout was a summer enrollee, he seemed to impressed during fall camp.
Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. emphasizes the importance of running man-to-man coverage. However, this Seminoles' football team is having to replace the likes of veterans such as Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent.
I believe in Knight III's ability to contribute as a Florida State Seminole. He will be a piece that defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and Surtain Sr. will have joy utilizing in the secondary.
This 2024 recruiting class is looking to be a special group for the foundation of the program. The 2025 season will likely see what the younger options are made of.
