Florida State football is now prepared to enter the 2024 season after achieving an undefeated regular season and an ACC Championship. The Seminoles will replace several players who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

One notable contributor was redshirt junior running back Trey Benson. During his two-year career with the Oregon Ducks, he did not have much production where the ball carrier only had six carries for 22 yards and one touchdown. Seminole fans were hesitant about Florida State bringing him since he did not have much playing time in Eugene plus he suffered a serious knee injury.

However, Benson proved all of his doubters wrong when he accumulated 310 rushing attempts for 1,896 yards and 23 touchdowns. While the former Oregon transfer was not the fastest player on the team, he was able to showcase his ability to break through opposing defenders trying to bring him down.

He took it personally when Florida State took on their arch-rival Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators. Benson went on to combine for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns against those two teams in orange.

Interestingly enough, Trey Benson was a reliable home run threat for the Seminoles where he had five games during the 2023 season where he had a 30+ yard carry. This instantly became a safety valve for quarterback Jordan Travis (and even for backups Tate Rodemaker and Brock Glenn).

NFL teams have even taken notice of Benson's ability as a runner. The 33rd Team recently released their 2024 NFL Draft Big Board for the running back position on Twitter (X) and the Mississippi native was the top back on the board.

This is exciting news as Trey Benson looks to have similar success to fellow Mississippi native Cam Akers, who was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell and company certainly had an eye for talent at the running back position as they properly evaluated Benson even when other individuals did not notice the potential that he had.
