Florida State football is turning the page after last season's snub from the College Football Playoff where the committee chose a one-loss Alabama team over an undefeated Seminoles squad.

The Seminoles' coaching staff added several newcomers via the transfer portal and recruiting ranks. With one week away from Florida State's season opener versus Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday, August 24th at noon EST, I want to highlight two players on the roster that wear the No. 1 jersey number that redshirt senior wide receiver Kentron Poitier and redshirt junior Shyheim Brown.

Poitier recorded six receptions for 136 yards last year. The 6'3"playmaker has been around Tallahassee for a while. However, he has dealt with injuries and inconsistencies. The Seminoles are in dire need of wide receivers after big-bodied Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson went to the NFL.

Poitier is looking to be part of the starting wide receiver rotation. I realize that sophomore Hykeem Williams is a very talented former five-star prospect. However, Williams has not been the most consistent thus far through camp. I believe that they could lean with the veteran in Poitier early in the season.

As for Brown, he was a starting safety last season where he was paired with veteran Akeem Dent. With Dent moving over to the NFL, the former three-star prospect will have to emerge as a leader on defense. In 2023, it seemed like the defense looked lost on defense when Dent was injured because he was the primary communicator who ensured that they were lined up in the right spots.

During the 2023 season, Brown recorded 53 tackles. The coaching staff will have to find his running mate to pair alongside him. The two likely candidates are Davonte Brown and Conrad Hussey, who should both see the field.

I cannot wait to see both of these young men for the 2024 season.
