Linebacker transfer target has been crystal balled to the Seminoles

Florida State fans were certainly getting impatient about the transfer portal acquisitions during the spring window. It was a bit confusing considering that head football coach Mike Norvell has been known for securing highly-touted transfers.

The program had already secured fifteen transfers via the transfer portal. On Tuesday morning, the floodgates began to open as 247Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that defensive back Omarion Cooper could be making his return to Tallahassee. That happened as Cooper is back with the program for the second time.

Just when you thought the news couldn't get any better, former Auburn linebacker transfer Cam Riley received three crystal ball predictions in favor of the Seminoles by 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, Zach Blostein, and Brendan Sonnone.

Riley originally committed to North Carolina State. However, he announced on social media that he de-committed from the Wolfpack. The veteran linebacker accumulated 120 total tackles (eight for loss) and 2.5 sacks during his time with the Tigers.

The Seminoles pursued the veteran earlier in the spring, but the aggression by the coaching staff was not at a large capacity. Florida State seemed to like what they saw from the linebackers such as Omar Graham Jr., Shawn Murphy, Justin Cryer, Blake Nichelson, and DeMarco Ward.

Even though it was huge getting senior DJ Lundy to return to Tallahassee after entering the transfer portal and committing to head football coach Deion Sanders and Colorado, the rotation as a whole does not have a ton of collegiate experience.

However, I am confident in the abilities of linebackers coach Randy Shannon to develop them at a high level. This is a smart move for the Seminoles to go after Riley. He is a veteran linebacker who has played many snaps in his collegiate career and could help bridge the gap with the younger options on the roster.
