FSU softball: FSU travels to face rival Florida Gators, looking for 11th straight win
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball (36-10, 15-3 ACC) have won their last 10 consecutive games, including a three-game sweep over Boston College this past weekend. The Noles will put the winning streak on the line when they travel to face the No. 10 rival Florida Gators (37-10, 12-6 SEC). The Noles have won the last five straight meetings between the two teams. The Gators won two of three games over the South Carolina Gamecocks over the weekend. Florida hitters bring a .347 batting average and .456 on-base percentage into the contest. They have hit 86 doubles, 16 triples, and 65 home runs while successful on 81 of 88 stolen base attempts. Florida relies on two pitchers to carry the load, bringing a 2.49 ERA into the contest. Opposing hitters hit .196 against them and have hit 17 home runs. Florida pitchers have struck out 209 and walked 110 batters in 287 innings.
Defensively, Florida has a solid .978 fielding percentage. The Gators are 19-4 at home, and several players on the FSU roster have won on their field during this five-game winning streak. The strength of the Florida team is their offense, and FSU pitchers will need to be in the strike zone like they have in recent weeks. Florida batters don't strike out much. They will put the ball in play and like to cause chaos on the base paths. FSU's defense will need to play clean in this one. Offensively, FSU should score runs against this Florida pitching staff. They are not overpowering and are usually in the strike zone. It'll be a good challenge for the Noles, who haven't faced a ranked team since their series loss against Duke several weeks ago. The game will begin at 6 p.m., and you can watch it on the ESPN app through your cable provider.
