FSU football filled a major need from the transfer portal when they got Alabama's Shawn Murphy to commit and enroll this spring. The Noles had one experienced linebacker on the roster, DJ Lundy, who withdrew from the transfer portal to finish what he started. On the surface, Murphy doesn't bring much production, which is something I thought the coaching staff would value more with portal players. However, after researching and writing about how the staff develops players from the high school ranks and the transfer portal?

FSU will likely take another linebacker from the portal with more proven production after the spring period. Auburn's Cam Riley could be an option, as well as Charlotte's Nikhai Green-Hill, who visited FSU a few weeks ago. If they take one or both players, that would instantly provide a boost to the linebacker unit. However, I feel confident we'll see Shawn Murphy becoming a major contributor in 2024. Let's look at some factors that lead me to that conclusion.
