FSU football: What is next for the Seminoles in the transfer portal?
FSU football has continued its hot streak in the transfer portal within the last couple of weeks where they have acquired quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, running back Jaylin Lucas, wide receivers Jalen Brown and Malik Benson, defensive ends Marvin Jones Jr. and Tomiwa Durojaiye, defensive tackle Grady Kelly, and cornerbacks Earl Little Jr. and Davonte Brown.
We alluded to in a previous article that Florida State added West Virginia defensive end transfer Tomiwa Durojaiye, who should bring versatility to the defensive line for defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
While the defensive end seems to be a position that has been discussed by the fan base, given that the football team will have to replace the likes of redshirt junior Jared Verse to the NFL, they have addressed the need with pickups of Jones Jr. and Durojaiye. Now, the attention has turned to acquiring another linebacker or two to the roster.
Florida State has been hit hard by the position this offseason. While it was expected that the Seminoles would not have redshirt senior linebackers Kalen DeLoach or Tatum Bethune, they also now have to replace redshirt junior DJ Lundy (who transferred to Colorado).
One target in Tackett Custis has committed to Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon. The Seminoles have only been involved with a few linebackers in the transfer portal such as Charlotte's Nikhai Hill-Green and Syracuse's Stefon Thompson.
I realize that the Seminoles have the utmost confidence in some of the talented pieces that they have on the roster such as Blake Nichelson, Omar Graham Jr., and Justin Cryer. However, none of those younger players have a ton of collegiate experience.
While the linebacker position is not necessarily a huge need in defensive coordinator Adam Fuller's 4-2-5 scheme, there still needs to be depth at the position to be able to effectively stop the run.
