FSU football coaches added 15 transfer players from the portal who enrolled this spring. It was a solid mixture of guys with proven experience and production and guys with high ceilings and multiple years of eligibility remaining. All the guys experienced the Tour of Duty workouts as they got acclimated to how FSU coaches do things. It's always a process when leaving one team and joining another, and fans and some media forget that at times. It's like they think the process works like a video game, insert a new player, and there is no acclimation period. We saw it last spring with players like Fentrell Cypress and other guys in the trenches. Guys have to learn new terminology and schemes different than where they played before.
However, once the players experience spring, summer, and experience fall camp, they're usually ready to contribute at a high level. Johnny Wilson, Trey Benson, Tatum Bethune, Jammie Robinson, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, and the list goes on. Now that FSU is near the midway point in spring camp, the transfer players are beginning to find their comfort zone, allowing their talent to take over as they get more reps in the systems. Mike Norvell confirmed as much in his post-scrimmage report with the media on Saturday. It's why I don't react negatively to early reports in spring practice like some media members. If a guy is performing well early that's a plus, but players will get so many more reps between now and the first game this fall that tons of progress can and will take place. I've been confident in this team since before spring camp started because of the caliber of players, the coaching staff's track record with transfer players, and the development of young players. As we get closer to the spring game, I anticipate we'll hear more and more about how these transfer players are standing out.
