FSU football: Top 10 most important wins in Mike Norvell era
By Kelvin Hunt
It's crazy to think Mike Norvell's coaching record with FSU football is nearly identical to his time at Memphis after four seasons, considering the start in Tallahassee. Norvell finished his time at Memphis with a 38-15 overall record and 24-8 in the AAC, including a 12-1, 8-0 record in his fourth and final season. His tenure at FSU was the complete opposite during the pandemic-impacted 2020 season. Norvell went 3-6 in his first season and started the second season 0-4 before finishing 5-3 over the final eight games.
Those games gave optimism to FSU football fans heading into the 2022 season, with expectations to make a bowl game and win at least 7-8 games. FSU exceeded those expectations, but it wasn't without overcoming some adversity. In hindsight, I look back at some games and realize things could have easily gone differently, and if so, Mike Norvell may not have gotten the chance to enjoy the fruit of his labor. Needless to say, FSU won those games and have ascended to where they have been for most of our lifetimes, among the top teams in college football. While I expect many more wins in the Mike Norvell era, here are my top 10 most important until now.
