FSU football: Score prediction/analysis for FSU-GT season opener
Florida State football opens the 2024 season in Dublin, Ireland as they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Head football coach Mike Norvell and company want the Seminoles to prove the doubters wrong.
The college football season is finally upon as Florida State is on its revenge tour after being excluded from an opportunity to compete for a national championship in December 2023.
Florida State's 2024 squad looks very different as they feature over forty newcomers on the roster such as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, wide receiver Malik Benson, and defensive end Marvin Jones Jr.
With so much unfamiliarity, it is normal for the fan base to be hesitant and nervous about what the season brings. However, Norvell has remained confident in his team's ability and overall depth.
We are finally back with our game analysis for the Florida State football games. I expect the Seminoles to have a very simplistic game plan where they feature a dynamic running game where they added Alabama's Roydell Williams and Indiana's Jaylin Lucas via the transfer portal this offseason.
Georgia Tech's defense was horrific at stopping the run last season where they allowed 221.3 rushing yards per game (128th in the FBS). Florida State's identity will be overpowering teams with the running game given that they have an experienced offensive line position group.
This should be an opportunity for the Seminoles to slow the game down and limit Georgia Tech's offense which will be led by quarterback Haynes King (who had 737 rushing yards in 2023) and running back Jamal Haynes (who had 1,059 rushing yards in 2023).
The defense for Florida State returns quality pieces such as Patrick Payton, Joshua Farmer, Darrell Jackson Jr., DJ Lundy, Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Shyheim Brown that will make the Yellow Jackets work for having to move the football.
As long as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei isn't faced with a ton of third down and long situations, I think that Florida State should be able to impose their will as they progressively get more and more into their offense as the season goes along.
The ChopChat staff is ready for their score predictions to be featured. It looks like everyone feels like the Seminoles will be victorious on Saturday. I hope that Florida State fans that made the trip to Ireland and we celebrate a victory that afternoon.
Taylor Devers: 31-20 FSU
Kelvin Hunt: 35-20 FSU
Leslie Johnson: 30-14 FSU
Nick Andre: 49-7 FSU
The ChopChat staff expects the Seminoles to start 1-0 in the 2024 season. I sincerely hope that Nick's score prediction is correct. It would be incredible to see Florida State blow Georgia Tech out in a commanding fashion.
