FSU football: Running list of players retained by The Battle's End for 2024
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football will lose a lot of firepower from its 2023 roster, with several guys declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. Other players have opted to enter the transfer portal, while some have found homes, and others are still searching. One of the biggest questions as we head into 2024 is who are some of the key players from this year's team who will return? Last year, we saw the emergence of The Battle's End Collective, which was instrumental in retaining top-tier players like Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Fabien Lovett, and others. They were also key players in acquiring top transfer portal additions like Keon Coleman and Jaheim Bell. Recently, the collective announced partnerships with several players, indicating they'll return for the 2024 season. That running list is below and will be updated as new ones get announced:
Thoughts
I think it's evident the priority for the collective is solidifying the trenches. The retention of four offensive linemen and two defensive ends with proven experience is important. Shyheim Brown is an important piece in the secondary, and Destyn Hill and Lawrance Toafili are two important skill position players. The latter is much more proven, but the potential for Hill in his second year is off the charts if he can stay healthy. FSU has already added important pieces from the transfer portal in defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. The FSU coaches have several visitors from the transfer portal expected to visit over the coming days. The staff places heavy emphasis on portal guys enrolling in the spring to go through spring practice, which allows them to assimilate into the team culture and get valuable practice reps. Historically, players that enroll in the spring have the potential to make more impact in the fall, compared to those that join the team after the spring. I'm sure there will be other players currently on the roster who'll be retained by the collective as well.
