FSU football: QB transfer DJ Uiagalelei has arrived in Tallahassee
FSU football has been super active in the transfer portal as fans were originally critical of the staff's ability to land highly-touted transfers to their roster for 2024.
One prospect that the Seminoles landed should have an immediate impact is former Oregon State quarterback transfer DJ Uiagalelei. As most fans know, the positon took a hit with its depth this offseason as redshirt senior Jordan Travis exceeded his eligibility, redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker transferred to Southern Miss, and redshirt freshman AJ Duffy transferred to San Diego State.
This only left two scholarship options on the roster in 2024 with true freshman Brock Glenn and four-star signee Luke Kromenhoek. There was a desperate need to acquire another signal caller to solidify depth as well as create a bridge veteran option to bring along the younger players.
The coaching staff was very interested in Washington State transfer Cameron Ward. However, he elected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft (sorry Miami...), which allowed the Seminoles to go after their other option in former Oregon State transfer DJ Uiagalelei.
Some fans might question Uiagalelei's ability while he was playing at Clemson, but he is a veteran option with a strong arm who fits Florida State's offensive system.
Uiagalelei's father (Dave Uiagalelei) announced on social media that his son has officially arrived in Tallahassee to begin his career at Florida State.
His father had glowing words to say about his son. Fans saw it firsthand how much DJ Uiagalelei wanted to be at Florida State. As head football coach Mike Norvell alludes to in his media sessions, he wants guys that are the right fit for this football program and the veteran signal caller seems to fit the description.
It will be fantastic to have Uiagalelei practicing with the team as well as player-only practices to get himself familiarized with the offense in the spring. While this football squad is unproven, Florida State has a ton of talent on its roster for the 2024 season.
