The FSU football team finished fall camp with veteran defensive back Shyheim Brown breaking the rock. The Noles will open their 2024 season on Saturday night against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. FSU fans had a solid idea of who the starters would be for the season opener, and the FSU coaching staff released its first depth chart on Sunday afternoon.

There were a few surprises, like Jalen Brown getting the nod at one of the wide receiver spots. Kevin Knowles at the OR starting spot with Earl Little Jr. caught my eye. I don't think FSU fans were worried about anything going into the game, but they were probably anxious to see who was where. However, I think they were even more encouraged once they saw the names on paper:

I think the players listed as backups tell even more of the story. FSU listing that many guys on its offensive line depth is crazy! FSU has several redshirt freshmen or sophomores listed, which is encouraging. For the folks who say FSU doesn't develop players, there are 13 guys this staff recruited out of high school who list as starters or co-starters.

I expect this depth chart to change as the season progresses. Young guys will continue to develop, but unfortunately, injuries always impact things, but the hope is that FSU can avoid those for a change. It wouldn't shock me to see Elijah Moore and Lawayne McCoy creep up the depth chart. Some folks were surprised Hykeem Williams isn't listed as a starter. I think he dealt with an injury this fall that slowed him. The fact he got on the field as a freshman last year tells me he'll be a factor if he can stay healthy.
