FSU football has acquired two transfers this offseason in Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and Georgia defensive end Marvin Jones Jr.
Both players were massive acquisitions for the Seminoles as they looked to create positive momentum from their 2023 season, which resulted in an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.
The coaching staff does not seem to be playing around after the football team was unjustly left out of the College Football Playoff. They are looking to make a statement to the college football landscape.
While the Uiagalelei and Jones Jr. pickups were notable, many players always seem to be entering the transfer portal. On Wednesday afternoon, 247Sports National College Football Writer Matt Zenitz reported that Florida State defensive end Gilber Edmond had entered the transfer portal.

Edmond transferred from South Carolina to Florida State this offseason in hopes of getting developed at a higher level. He had 39 tackles (9 for loss) and two sacks in 2022 with the Gamecocks.
However, Edmond had only 23 tackles (1.5 for loss) and one sack in 2023 with the Seminoles. He was primarily behind both redshirt junior Jared Verse and redshirt sophomore Patrick Payton. Plus, he split time in the rotation with redshirt sophomore Byron Turner Jr.
While Verse has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, the Seminoles likely brought Marvin Jones Jr. in to start at the defensive end spot. This will have Edmond as a primary backup to both Jones Jr. and Payton. Given that he will be a redshirt senior during the 2024 season, he will likely want the opportunity to start at another institution.
Overall, Florida State will have to find options to step up at the defensive end position to give serviceable depth. The Seminoles have a track record of developing transfer defensive ends like Jermaine Johnson II, Keir Thomas, and Jared Verse.
