FSU football: DC Adam Fuller raves about veteran LB transfer Cam Riley
Florida State conducted its first practice solely focusing on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Seminoles will be taking on the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, August 24th at noon EST on ESPN.
The team will be welcoming in a ton of newcomers so many individuals do not know what to expect from this 2024 version of the Seminoles. The good news is that the coaching staff remains optimistic about what the team could be.
Florida State defensive coordinator Adam Fuller was asked about senior linebacker transfer Cam Riley after today's practice:
"I think he has done a really nice job. I think we are still trying to see his true personality where he is trying not to make a mistake, but the ability to play fast is showing up. He fits really well with how we want him to look. I got confidence in him."
Riley recorded 121 tackles (8 for loss) and 2.5 sacks during his career with the Auburn Tigers. He is listed as a starter at linebacker (-OR- designation) with sophomore Blake Nichelson.
The linebacker position is changing with the Seminoles as veterans Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune are off to the NFL. Both DeLoach and Bethune were the top two tackles in the Seminoles' defense for the 2023 season.
However, it should be noted that linebackers coach Randy Shannon has been around the game of football for a very long time and understands what it takes to get the most out of his players.
The most experienced linebacker on the roster is redshirt senior DJ Lundy, who flirted with the idea of transferring to Colorado this offseason. Fans began to get cautious of what the position room would look like. However, after the Auburn linebacker transfer de-committed from North Carolina State and enrolled at Florida State, the concern started to die down.
Being a summer enrollee as well as his frame at 6'5 and 237 pounds, I wondered how he would be utilized in the defense. However, even though Riley was a summer enrollee, he seems to have found his identity on the team.
I cannot wait to see how the linebackers (more specifically Riley) perform during the 2024 season.
