FSU football: Coaches waste no time getting active in transfer portal after Orange Bowl
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches signed their highest-ranked recruiting class from the high school ranks a couple of weeks ago. However, with all of the talent declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, everyone knew they'd need to hit the transfer portal for a few positions. One of those positions was defensive tackle, and FSU offered a player at the position Sunday afternoon. Colorado State defensive tackle Grady Kelly posted an offer from FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller on X:
Kelly is a redshirt sophomore listed at 6'2" and 285 pounds with solid production over the past two seasons. He's originally from Navarre, Florida, and earned freshman All-American honors from the College Football News. FSU will lose production from Fabien Lovett, Braden Fiske, Malcolm Ray, and potentially Dennis Briggs Jr.(unless he gets approved for another year). FSU lost Ayobami Tifase to the transfer portal, who committed to Georgia Tech Saturday. Kelly would have two years of eligibility remaining and would be a solid depth piece with proven production.
I spoke about fans needing patience and the coaches historically doing most of their work in the transfer portal after Christmas since they prefer their tranfers to enroll in the spring semester and go through spring practice. They have already added Marvin Jones Jr. from the portal and will have several guys officially visiting in the coming days. The Orange Bowl highlighted the positions FSU needs to fill. Quarterback, linebacker, defensive end, defensive tackle, wide receiver, and offensive line are the key spots. FSU football fans have a sour taste in their mouths with all of the negativity with the snub and how the Orange Bowl went down. However, there's nothing a little recruiting momentum going into spring won't cure. I expect FSU to make some noise over the next couple of weeks to gear up for 2024.
