FSU will go into its week three game against Memphis as the betting favorite. It surprised some folks that the betting line opened at -5.5 (Draft Kings) last week after FSU lost its first two games outright as double-digit betting favorites. However, the betting line has moved up to -7 since last week. The over/under betting total is 52, which implies around a 30-23 win for the Noles. Do bettors still trust FSU after the first two weeks? They must since the line has moved that much. However, FSU does have a few things going in its favor.

  • FSU should be the better team in the trenches
  • FSU is coming off of a bye-week
  • Memphis doesn't have a quarterback that's a dual threat like FSU's first two opponents
  • Memphis must travel to Tallahassee
  • Soft factor, but maybe these guys will get fired up for Mike Norvell's former team?

I don't think the FSU team is far away if guys execute what's asked. I wrote how they'd likely be 2-0 if they had better quarterback play. Memphis had one of the worst defenses last year(but so did Georgia Tech and Boston College). Defensively, FSU hasn't been terrible against the pass except for those rail routes Boston College killed them with. I think not worrying so much about the quarterback running will allow guys to play instead of thinking so much. FSU was excellent against the pass last year and return most of the secondary. If they can stop the run, that will give the defensive ends a chance to finally pin their ears back on obvious passing downs. Can DJ Uiagalelei finally put it together? If so, FSU will have a good shot to cover the spread. It'll be interesting to see where this betting line ends before the game starts on Saturday.
