Florida State football has the 17th-best recruiting class in the 2025 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Seminoles' coaching staff would like to give the program more talent on its roster.

Florida State has missed some prospects on the recruiting trail such as four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace who decided to commit to the Arkansas Razorbacks. This is the reality of college football recruiting. You win some, and you lose some.

On Monday afternoon, the Seminoles had another miss on the recruiting trail as Class of 2025 five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia decided to pledge to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

This is considered a loss by Florida State here as Petty was the crystal ball favorite for the Seminoles for quite some time. His sister is even going to class in the Tallahassee area. The family environment was even something that the Georgia native gravitated to.

The Yellow Jackets pitched the "hometown hero" pitch to the offensive lineman as he looked to value academics and revitalize the program to new heights. It leaves Florida State in a bad spot for other targets because there are not too many highly-touted prospects that are high on them at this time.

Florida State already has five-star Solomon Thomas and four-star Peyton Joseph in the fold as their offensive linemen. They have talented prospects on the offensive line. It would have been nice to secure another talented piece on the offensive line with current players such as Maurice Smith, Darius Washington, Jeremiah Byers, etc. graduating after the 2024 season.

Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins has been a really good recruiter on the coaching staff. There are talented young pieces on the offensive line that are exciting such as Lucas Simmons, Andre Otto, Jaylen Early, Julian Armella, and Jonathan Daniels, among others.

I would not suggest panicking right now. There is still a long way away from the December Early Signing Period. Petty might even re-consider if Florida State has the season that it expects to have the season that they think and if the Seminoles defeat the Yellow Jackets in Ireland.
