FSU football coaches have been white-hot in the transfer portal and may add a couple more prep players to its 2024 top 10 recruiting class. However, the grind doesn't stop there as Mike Norvell has already been on the road checking in on some top 2025 recruiting targets after signing an 8-year extension last week. A 2025 defensive back target they pursued heavily a few months ago is back on the market. Four-star defensive back Chris Ewald de-committed from the Michigan Wolverines Monday night. He is the No. 86 player and No. 11 cornerback nationally. Ewald hails from Chaminade Madonna High School in South Florida. That is where 2023 FSU defensive back signee Edwin Joseph came from.

The Noles got Ewald on campus in June 2022, March 2023, June 2023, October 2023, and November 2023. That's a ton of visits, which used to mean a lot before the NIL game emerged. It's hard to put as much stock in those as before, but it's still a solid sign of interest. However, Ewald did visit the Georgia Bulldogs this month. FSU signed arguably the best defensive backs class in the nation in 2024 and will likely be selective in 2025 after taking a large defensive backs class in 2023. Ewald is listed at 6'0" and 160 pounds, with a 6'3" wingspan. Miami signed two former teammates from his high school in 2024, so they could be a team to watch or in this recruitment as well. I'll be interested to see if Ewald gets back on campus this spring. If so, that'll be a sign the interest continues to be high on both sides. Ewald likely de-committed because of the rumors Jim Harbaugh interviewed for an NFL job. Stay tuned to Chopchat for more recruiting news and analysis. Ewald would be an excellent addition to the 2025 if he were to join the Tribe.
