FSU coaches are pursuing Class of 2025 4-star WR target Vernell Brown III
FSU football has been quite productive on the recruiting trail when it comes to acquiring wide receiver prospects. The Seminoles were able to land four talented pass catchers in the 2024 recruiting cycle in four stars Camdon Frier, BJ Gibson, Lawayne McCoy, and Elijah Moore.
However, wide receivers coach Ron Dugans has not secured any pass-catching pledges for the 2025 cycle yet. While it seems like five-star Jaime Ffrench Jr. from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville (FL) is the primary target for the coaching staff at this time, they will likely try to obtain three playmakers in the class.
One name to monitor is four-star Vernell Brown III from Jones High School in Orlando (FL). This is the same high school as the Class of 2024 four-star quarterback signee Trever Jackson, who is now enrolled at Florida State.
Brown III came to Tallahassee this past weekend for their Junior Day event. The talented playmaker then received a visit from head football coach Mike Norvell and running backs coach David Johnson. During the 2023 season, the wide receiver had a sensational campaign where he recorded 70 receptions for 1,404 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Norvell has always had a soft spot for players who can contribute on special teams since he views that aspect of the game as invaluable to the success of a program. Brown III also had four special teams touchdowns (3 punt returns and 1 kickoff return).
While the Orlando (FL) native has not put out a top schools list just yet, I fully expect the Seminoles to be involved in this recruitment. With Brown III listed at 5'11" and 165 pounds, he would be a tremendous asset in the slot with his track speed.
His father (Vernell Brown) was a former player with the arch-rival Florida Gators. Hopefully, the Seminoles will be able to make an impression on the Florida legacy recruit.
