FSU baseball staved off elimination from the Men's College World Series with a big 7-3 win over the Virginia Cavaliers. FSU starting pitcher Carson Dorsey turned in an excellent quality start, going seven innings, scattering nine hits, three earned runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Brennen Oxford redeemed himself by pitching the final two frames, allowing one hit, one walk, and a strikeout. Jaime Ferrer continues to swing a hot bat, pounding two home runs in the contest to go 2-4 with four RBI. The Noles got on the board first with a bases-loaded walk to James Tibbs in the bottom of the third inning. Ferrer hit his first home run in the bottom of the fourth, a solo shot. However, it was at the bottom of the fifth that FSU burst the game wide open, all with two outs. Cam Smith hit a double, and James Tibbs was intentionally walked, which set the stage for Ferrer's second home run, a three-run shot to put the Noles up 6-0.

FSU added another run in the bottom of the sixth on an Alex Lodise solo home run for a 7-0 lead. Virginia finally crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh on four singles. However, Dorsey ultimately struck out the side to get out of the jam. The quality start was Dorsey's third consecutive in the postseason, and just what the Noles needed after Friday night's blown lead. The Noles will face the loser of the North Carolina/Tennessee game on Tuesday at 2 p.m. It'll be interesting to see what FSU will do pitching-wise. I'd expect Conner Whittaker to start as long as he had no setbacks after pitching in relief on Friday night. The FSU offense has scored 7+ runs in six of seven postseason games. They'll need that to continue next week.
