FSU baseball: 5 major takeaways from 2024 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Carson Dorsey Was Arguably the MVP
If you had put a poll out before the season and asked how many games FSU would win if Cam Leiter only made seven starts and Conner Whittaker only pitched in 17 games, I'm sure there would have been a lot of doom and gloom from the fan base. Carson Dorsey was appearing out of the bullpen and gave up grand slams left and right against Clemson. However, when Leiter went down with his injury, it was Dorsey who stepped into the rotation to eat innings and led FSU to several wins in the regular season. I'd argue FSU wouldn't have been a top 8 national seed without him.
They wouldn't have hosted Super Regionals and likely wouldn't have made the Men's College World Series. His performance in the first game of the regionals after looking terrible in the ACC Baseball Championships gave FSU the shot in the arm needed to run through the regional and Super Regional undefeated. He'll likely get drafted in a few weeks, and I would be surprised if he didn't sign. He showed great mental toughness to overcome several tough spots this season.
