FSU baseball: 5 major takeaways from 2024 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Defensive Improvements
I routinely pointed out that FSU needed vast improvement on defense. The Noles had been terrible defensively for the better part of the last decade. One of the hallmarks of Link Jarrett teams is they are sound defensively and usually make the routine play. That wasn't the case last year, but Jarrett pointed out how they needed to become more athletic at certain positions. He addressed that issue via the transfer portal with the additions of Alex Lodise, Drew Faurot, and Daniel Cantu.
FSU had a .966 fielding percentage in 2023, with 69 errors in 2009 chances. They averaged 1.3 errors per game, ranking No. 216 nationally. FSU improved its field percentage to .978, with only 51 errors in 2,357 chances, where they averaged .8 per game, ranking No. 24 nationally. That is an incredible turnaround, especially considering 13 of the 51 errors were committed by pitchers.
