FSU baseball: 4 major takeaways from Noles winning Tallahassee Regional
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU Starting Pitching Was Outstanding
What can I say about the FSU starting pitching in the regional? Carson Dorsey went 8.2 innings in game one. Jamie Arnold went seven innings in game two, and Conner Whittaker went four innings in game three with a limited pitch count. When FSU starting pitchers get quality starts it helps shorten the game for the limited FSU bullpen. FSU starting pitchers allowed 15 hits, five earned runs, five walks, and 20 strikeouts. It doesn't get much better than that. The FSU bullpen only used four guys in three games, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing four hits, 11 strikeouts, and three walks.
The FSU pitching staff limiting the walks will be the key to their success. Listen, I don't expect FSU to get a near-complete game from Carson Dorsey every outing. However, he went five+ innings in the majority of his starts this season. Jamie Arnold is Jamie Arnold and Conner Whittaker is Conner Whittaker. If Carson Dorsey can go at least six innings in the rest of his starts? FSU will have an excellent shot to win it all(as long as the offense continues to hit at a decent clip).
