Could FSU true freshman RB Micahi Danzy be factored into the offense in Year 1?
Florida State football was busy in the transfer portal this offseason where they acquired several veteran pieces for their roster in 2024. However, they are losing several contributors on the team that made the 2023 campaign so successful.
One of those players was running back Trey Benson. He had accumulated 1,800+ rushing yards and 23 touchdowns during the two seasons in Tallahassee. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Running backs coach David Johnson has always emphasized the importance of creating a stable of playmakers for the offense. They added two transfers in Roydell Williams (Alabama) and Jaylin Lucas (Indiana) to help elevate the position room after Benson left.
The Seminoles still have running backs such as Lawrence Toafili and Caziah Holmes on their roster. They also added two talented 2024 recruits in four-star prospects Kameron Davis and Micahi Danzy.
Davis gets a ton of attention with how his frame is built and the fact that he enrolled to the university in January. However, Danzy is from Tallahassee and is referred to as a burner in the open field.
Danzy looks like he has bulked up his frame this offseason. This could be pivotal for his development as he looks to find a place in the rotation. Will the true freshman be a factor in the offense in his first season?
I think it will be difficult given that he won't be enrolling at the university until the summer. However, Danzy is a speedster who could be a focal point in the offense if given the opportunity. The Seminoles have backs in their position room such as Roydell Williams, Lawrance Toafili, Caziah Holmes, Jaylin Lucas, Kameron Davis, and Samuel Singleton Jr.
That is a ton of mouths to feed in an offense that caters to running the football. However, I have no doubt in my mind that running backs coach David Johnson will find a method to get Danzy involved once Williams, Toafili, and Holmes graduate after the 2024 season.
