Can TE Landen Thomas become a starter for the Seminoles in 2024?
Florida State football conducted its Spring Showcase on Saturday in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium (which was under construction). It was a great time where fans were finally able to witness football since the forgettable Orange Bowl loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
There are plenty of new faces on the roster in terms of recruits as well as transfers. The coaching staff is trying its best to gel everyone together to have a successful 2024 campaign just like 2023 which accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.
One player that I was excited about heading into the Spring Showcase was true freshman tight end, Landen Thomas. The tight end position is so vital in the offensive scheme where they are versatile with playing as in-line blockers, in the slot, and on the outside.
Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell raved about Thomas in the media session following the Spring Showcase where he stated that he liked what he saw from the Georgia native. He went on to say that he had a couple of times where he got the football in his hands. The former four-star has had a really good spring where he continues to flash.
Unfortunately, the Seminoles will have to replace the productive tight end Jaheim Bell, who was the third-leading pass catcher on the team from a season ago. Bell should be a phenomenal NFL player as he looks to take his skill set to the next level.
Tight end Kyle Morlock, who transferred in from Division II school Shorter last offseason, is expected to be a starter at tight end. However, who will be lined up alongside him in two tight-end sets? This is where I believe that Landen Thomas can be a factor. While it is difficult to expect a true freshman to do everything, I think Thomas has what it takes to make it happen.
