Bettors hammering Boston College betting line against FSU football
By Kelvin Hunt
It's amazing how quickly narratives can change. A week ago, No. 10 FSU was a double-digit betting favorite over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and lost outright. It was the first time that's happened under Mike Norvell since the 2021 season. There was some skepticism surrounding the Noles going into the season, but that performance has folks believing the Noles are total frauds. FSU was a -23 point-betting favorite over Boston College, and that line is down to -15.5 in most places. The performance against Georgia Tech was so bad that most FSU fans have little faith the Noles will win the game, much less cover the betting spread. A whopping 70 percent or more of the bets are on Boston College. The Eagles nearly upset the Noles last year in a weird game when most of the team had the flu, and Boston College had some lucky breaks. Boston College has similarities to Georgia Tech in that they have an athletic quarterback who ran all over FSU last year. However, here's why you should have some faith in FSU on Monday night.
Boston College has a brand new coaching staff and lost two offensive line starters to the NFL. They return three starters from last year, but there is a drop-off with the remaining players. The Boston College defense was bad last year and had no pass rush and they lost their leading tackler at linebacker. Thomas Castellanos is dangerous with his feet but isn't a great passer, completing 57 percent of his attempts with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. They don't have the continuity or experience Georgia Tech has as a team. It'll also be their first game, so I expect them to play sloppy. Fans see Boston College almost beat FSU last year and add that with how they looked last week to assume the game will be close or they will lose. Oddsmakers are not in the business to lose money and when things look too good to be true, they usually are.
