Florida State has not secured a defensive back in the 2025 recruiting cycle just yet. However, there are some names that the Seminoles are heavily considering.

Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. is doing a phenomenal job with acquiring talent. He secured four talented prospects in the last recruiting cycle with Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III. His recruiting prowess, especially in the south Florida regions, has been remarkable.

As we alluded to in a previous article, Class of 2025 four-star cornerback Gregory Xavier Thomas from American Heritage High School in Plantation (FL) remains to be a high-priority target for this coaching staff.

However, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong reported on Twitter (X) that Class of 2025 four-star athlete Lagonza Hayward Jr. from Toombs County High School in Lyons (GA) that Florida State was a dream school for him.

While fans have seen how recruitments have played out for prospects who view Florida State as their "dream school", it is worth noting that the Seminoles do a nice job with recruiting the state of Georgia.

Hayward Jr. also has Alabama and Tennessee entered in the mix for his recruitment. While the Crimson Tide used to be a worrisome product to recruit against with the legendary head football coach Nick Saban at the helm, Alabama now has first-year Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.

During Hayward Jr.'s three-year playing career at Toombs County High School, he has accumulated 108 total tackles (10 for loss), nine pass breakups, eight interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles as a defensive back. He has also recorded 102 receptions for 1,758 yards and 16 touchdowns as a receiver.

Overall, this would be a fantastic get for the Seminoles as they look to acquire talented pieces for their secondary.
