Florida State's coaching staff has already taken advantage of its remarkable 2023 season on the field where it achieved an undefeated regular season and an ACC Championship. The Seminoles are starting to see it pay dividends on the recruiting trail.

They have four talented pieces in their 2025 recruiting cycle to build upon for the future. However, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has yet to secure a piece for his secondary. Surtain Sr. made his presence felt last recruiting cycle where he obtained Charles Lester III, Cai Bates, Jamari Howard, and Ricky Knight III.

Seminole fans could be in store for fireworks this cycle as well where they are in the thick of things with some talented prospects. One notable recruit to monitor is four-star safety/linebacker Darrell "Duke" Johnson from Dodge County High School in Eastman (GA). He is considered the 33rd best prospect in the 247Sports rankings. Florida State is recruiting him as a safety.

During the 2023 season at Dodge County High School, he was able to accumulate 103 total tackles. He has consistently showcased his interest in Florida State where he visited Tallahassee three times since September of last year.

He already had one crystal ball prediction in favor of the Seminoles from Noles247's Zach Blostein from November 2023. However, on Monday morning, 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Anna Adams put in another prediction in favor of head football coach Mike Norvell and company.

Overall, this would be a massive acquisition to obtain such a talented defender who is versatile and physical when coming downfield. Florida State has made its living with recruiting the states of Florida and Georgia in recent recruiting cycles. The coaching staff has emphasize the importance of getting prospects in those regions.

It will be interesting to see when Johnson makes his decision given that the fan base is ready for the program to start obtain a couple of commitments as we quickly approach the spring game in April.
